Queen Lili’uokalani ascended to the throne after her brother King Kalakaua passed away, but her reign was cut short when American businessmen staged a coup and deposed her. Although she was imprisoned for a time, she was eventually released and spent her remaining years working diligently to restore Hawaiian sovereignty. Despite everything she endured, Queen Lili’uokalani remained an esteemed figurehead of Hawaiian culture and history until she died in 1917. Her legacy inspires people worldwide who are fighting for their freedom and self-determination.
